Review: Byron Bay Cookies

We love cookies in our house; whether they are homemade or bought in the shops, you would be forgiven for liking us to the Cookie Monster. Grown Boy is the biggest fan, and he is quite picky when it comes to his cookies, so they have to be good.

You should have seen his face when I showed him the box load of cookie goodness that arrived last week from Byron Bay Cookie Company; I've never seen a pre-teen's eyes light up so brightly!

Since the late 1990's, Australian born, Byron Bay Cookies have become become an international best seller in over 30 countries worldwide, picking up awards for their quality and taste. They bake an incredible 50 million cookies per year which sell in over 40 countries, and deservingly win awards from across the globe.

In 2007, Byron Bay Cookie Company wanted to keep up with their green credentials and use as many local sourced ingredients as possible so they signed a deal with one of the UK most prestigious bakeries to produce the cookies in the UK. This move meant that they could be certified by The Vegetarian Society as they now contain only free range eggs. They have also searched all over Europe to find a candy covered chocolate bean that is free from cochineal and gelatine which has resulted in the ever popular Dotty™ and Clowning Around cookies being able to gain Vegetarian Society approval. The gluten free range has also been approved by Coeliac UK and displays the Cross Grain Symbol.

We were sent a section of single wrapped cookies in various flavours. Some were Gluten free, and some were original Byron Bay cookies. They were equally delicious and would recommend both ranges.

We had a lot of fun reviewing these. Myself, Grown Boy, Middle Miss and Little One sat like X Factor judges of the cookie variety and tasted each one. Here is what we thought:

Gluten Free Dotty Cookie - Gluten Free Triple Chocolate cookie covered in dotty choc drops. This was delicious and a big hit with the kids. The giant dotty drops are fun and taste great; very chocolatey and just right as a treat.

Gluten free Strawberry and clotted cream Cookie with white chocolate chunks - A soft and luxurious gluten free cookie with strawberries, clotted cream and white chocolate chunks. Middle Miss's favourite! This has a melt in the mouth texture and a creamy yet tangy flavour. The white chocolate chunks finish it perfectly.

Dotty Cookie - Milk Chocolate chunk cookie covered in dotty choc drops. Naturally, this isn't as chocolatey as the tripe chocolate dotty but the added chocolate chunks give it a lovely texture and pleasing flavour.

Triple Choc Fudge Cookie - A rich, moist soft textured cookie filled with cocoa, white & dark choc chunks along with fudge pieces. Yes, this is as amazing as it sounds! It is rich and chocolatey, unbelievable moist and oh so delicious! My favourite! Just the sort of treat I'd look forward to with a well deserved cup of tea!

Fig and Pecan cookie - A soft, moist and chewy cookie crammed with figs & pecans. I was really looking forward to trying this one; is sounded fabulous and perfect for winter days. It is sweet and chewy and reminds me of a indulgent flapjack. A really nice alternative to a regular cookie.

Milk Choc Chunk Cookie - A rich, moist soft textured  cookie crammed with milk choc chunks.  This was Little Ones favourite, and one of mine too. It's a delight to eat and almost melts in the mouth. As you can see from the photo, they are, indeed crammed with choc chunks!

Sticky Date & Ginger with Walnut Cookie - A moist, chewy cookie delicately spiced with dates, walnuts & chunks of ginger. Oh my word! Well, this is just something else! It has a texture of a moist flapjack and it is so fruity! It reminds me of a spicy cookie version of a winter prune cake I made last year. The dates are sticky & gorgeous and the spice is just right. It's not over spiced so that it turns into a ginger biscuit, it just has that right amount of bite and warmth that makes you feel at home. The walnuts give a slight crunch too - so much going on but it works SO well!

Lemon Macadamia Nut Shortbread - A rich, melt-in-your-mouth shortbread delicately flavoured with lemon citrus and macadamia nut chunks. This is so light and crumby that I broke it as I greedily unwrapped it. It's rich and buttery and bursting with a lemony flavour and aroma. Macadamia buts are one of my favourite nuts and they work very well here. They give a delicate nutty flavour and a wonderful texture.

Thank you so much to Byron Bay Cookie Company for the delicious samples. If you would like to find out more, please visit
